Yunnan University of Finance and Economics

I. About Yunnan University of Finance and Economics

Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE) is situated in the northern part of Kunming City, which is reputed as “the Spring City” because of its pleasant weather all year round. The university was established in 1951 and authorized as a provincial key university by the People's Government of Yunnan Province in 1995.  

Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE) is a multi-disciplinary university with a focus on economics and management, and a coordinated development of the disciplines of law, literature, science, engineering and art. It has the right to award bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and doctor’s degrees. The university has 17 colleges and 1 teaching department. It offers 65 undergraduate programs, 12 master's programs in first-level disciplines, 17 master's programs in professional degrees, and 15 doctoral programs. It has a number of research institutes, such as the Tourism and Cultural Industry Research Institute, the Land Resources and Sustainable Development Research Institute, Research Institute For Indian Ocean Economies, and the Public Policy Research Center.

In terms of international cooperation, it has established solid exchange and cooperation relations with more than 160 universities and institutions in more than 40 countries and regions such as Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, India, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and Australia, and has built a diversified platform for training international composite talents. Since 2015, it has undertaken the Academic Education Programs for Developing Countries Sponsored by Ministry of Commerce. So far, it has held nine sessions, enrolled 295 government officials from 53 countries in developing countries, co-organized short-term training programs of Ministry of Commerce, and trained 4,463 government officials from 104 countries in total.

At present, the university has 2152 staff members, more than 1400 full-time teachers, 687 senior titles, including 214 professors, 405 associate professors, 384 doctoral degrees. 3 distinguished professors of Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education, 4 experts of the National “Ten Million Talents Project”, 3 experts of National Outstanding contribution, 19 experts of The State Council special allowance, 1 person selected as the New Century Outstanding Talents Support Plan of the Ministry of Education, 1 National teacher ethics model, 5 members of the National Higher Education Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, and Yunnan Provincial Party Committee contact experts, There are nearly 200 high-level ta
lents such as Yunling scholars and provincial government special allowance experts. At present, there are more than 33,000 registered students, including more than 5,000 graduate students and nearly 300 international students. Graduates have a solid foundation of professional knowledge and strong professional application ability, and can be competent for the relevant work of state organs, enterprises and public institutions and various social organizations.

The school has complete infrastructure and modern technical equipment, which can provide effective services and guarantee for teaching and learning. All classrooms are multimedia, there is an electronic and modern five-story library building, with a collection of more than 4.044 million volumes (including 1.909 million electronic books). There are modern multi-functional gymnasium and swimming pool for teachers and students to exercise and carry out recreational activities. The campus environment is beautiful, tree-lined, clean, comfortable and safe. Transportation is convenient, life is convenient, and the Internet is smooth.

II. Enrollment Categories of YUFE

i. Study for a Bachelor’s Degree

The undergraduate majors of each school of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics are set according to the list of majors (see the “Undergraduate Majors List”). Foreign high school graduates or junior college graduates with Chinese proficiency (HSK level 3) can apply for admission to Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. The study duration is 4 years, and they can apply for admission before May 20 each year. The application time of Chinese Government Scholarship and Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship is subject to the application deadline of each program's admission brochure.

ii. Study for a Master’s Degree or a Doctor’s Degree

The master's and doctoral majors of each school of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics are set according to the list of majors (see the “Master’s Majors” and “Doctoral Majors”). Foreign undergraduates and master's students who meet the requirements of Chinese proficiency (HSK level 4) can apply for master’s and doctoral degrees in Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. The master’s degree lasts for 3 years, and the doctoral degree lasts for 4 years. Applicants should apply before May 20 each year. The application time for Chinese Government Scholarship and Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship shall be subject to the deadline of application in the admission regulations of each program.

iii. Further Learning of Chinese Language

Regular enrollment is twice a year, starting in March and September respectively. Education is not limited, health, 18 years of age or older. The length of schooling is usually one semester or one academic year.

iv. Other Training Programs

According to the needs of foreign schools and institutions, language and culture training courses for students, training courses for civil servants, vocational Chinese language and culture training courses for enterprise employees, etc.

III. Materials Required of International Students When Registering:

i.Undergraduate Students

Eligible individuals abroad or already in China may apply at the Overseas School of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.

1. Application form For international students Studying in China of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics;

2. Foreigner physical examination form;

3.Original or notarized copy of high school graduation certificate, fresh graduates need the original "Expected graduation certificate", can provide Chinese/English graduation certificate, if it is in a language other than English, need to provide an English translation and notarized, the name of the certificate of education and degree must be consistent with the name of the passport;

4.The original or notarized transcripts of all senior high school courses can be provided in Chinese or English. If the transcripts are in languages other than English, English translation and notarization are required;

5.Study plan, award certificate and other relevant materials;

6.Passport copy (valid ordinary passport, valid for more than one year);

7.Copy of HSK Chinese Proficiency Certificate;

8.No criminal record proof;

9.Applicants under the age of 18 must submit the relevant legal documents of the legal guardian in China;

10.Electronic version of my ID photo, named after passport number (photo format: color 2-inch headless ID photo, white background without border, head accounting for 2/3 of the photo size, photo size not less than 320*240 pixels, aspect ratio of 4:3, size of 100=500KB, JPG format);

11.Proof of financial status.

ii. Master’s and Doctoral Students

Eligible individuals abroad or already in China may apply at the Overseas School of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.

Master’s and doctoral students should submit the following application materials:

1. Application form For international students Studying in China of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics;

2.Foreigner physical examination form ；

3.Notarized certificate of highest academic degree in Chinese or English; Fresh graduates can submit the study certificate issued by their school and the corresponding notarized documents in Chinese or English. The name of the certificate of education and degree must be consistent with the name of the passport;

4. Original or photocopy of study transcript;

5. A detailed plan for study or research in China (not less than 800 words, written in Chinese or English);

6.Recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors (in Chinese or English);

7.Copies of published articles;

8.Copy of HSK Chinese Proficiency Certificate;

9.Copy of passport (valid ordinary passport, valid for more than one year);

10.No criminal record proof;

11.Electronic version of my ID photo, named after passport number (photo format: color 2-inch headless ID photo, white background without border, head accounting for 2/3 of photo size, photo size not less than 320*240 pixels, aspect ratio of 4:3, size of 100=500KB, JPG format).

12.Proof of financial status.

IV. Standards of Fees

i. Registration: 400 RMB;

ii. Insurance: 160 RMB (one month), 240 RMB (two months), 320 RMB (three months); 400 RMB (four to six months), 800 RMB (one year);

i. Chinese Government Scholarships

For postgraduate students only, applicants must apply and submit materials directly to the Overseas School of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. For more information, please visit the website of China Scholarship Council at

The Chinese Government Scholarship application and submission of information are

subject to the Admissions of Chinese Government Scholarship published by Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.

ii. Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship

Applicant must directly submit application and relevant materials to YUFE, or find details at http://www.ynjy.cn/

The application and submission of the Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship are subject to the Admissions of Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship published by Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.

iii.Da Yi Scholarship for International students

It is specially designed for international students in school. The annual bonus is RMB 5,000 per person, the number of rewards is 5-10 people, and they can apply according to the notice of the school after enrollment.
